The Queen's Speech, which was delivered today, gives the government the opportunity to set out its legislative agenda for the coming Parliamentary year.

We hope that it will be used to signal continuing investment in our public services as a means of helping the UK through the economic recession.

We have been campaigning in recent months for the expected Equality Bill to place a duty on both public and private bodies to promote fairness and ensure that they consider the diverse needs of their workforces.

We are expecting there to be an emphasis on measures to improve fairness and increase democratic accountability.
